Background: A fifteen-man technical delegation form The People's Republic of China arrived in Malta Sunday (13 August) to begin evaluating what projects should be done under the agreement between the two countries signed in April of this year.

Under the agreement, China will make an interest free loan of 16.93 million pounds sterling for a period of six years. Over fifteen-million pounds of that sum will be used for development projects and the remainder given in cash.

The agreement also provides for the Chinese to send as many technicians and engineers as might be required for the works development projects.

The Chinese technical study group will talk with Maltese officials and visit sites in Malta to determine what work is to be done. One of the first projects under consideration is the building of a new quay in Malta harbour.
