    William Shakespeare's immortal play "Julius Caesar" is staged at the Waseda University Memorial Auditorium on May 26th The occasion is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Shoyo Tsubouchi, an eminent Japanese scholar of Shakespeare.

    Dr. Tsubouchi died twenty three years ago but during his lifetime he studied the works of Shakespeare and wrote the "Collections of Shakespeare" which covers 40 volumes. Dr. Tsubouchi who was a professor at Waseda University is an authority on the works of Shakespeare and there is an Shakespearean Hall at the university which contains items and relics pertaining to Shakespeare.

    The "Julius Caesar" play which is staged today was translated by Dr. Tsubouchi.

    Dr. Tsubouchi was born on May 22nd, 1859 and passed away in 1936.
