  • Description

Israeli Government leaders were given a first-hand account of the opinions of the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China on the Middle East situation in Jerusalem on Wednesday (14 July) when they met the visiting Rumanian Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr Georgi Macovescu.

Rumania is the only Eastern European country which maintains diplomatic relations with Israel. The others, headed by the Soviet Union, broke off relations at the time of the June war in 1967.

Mr Macovescu met Israeli Foreign Minister Mr Abba Eban, and the Prime Minister Mrs Golda Meir. Their talks were believed to cover bilateral relations between their two countries, and the strengthening of trade links.
