Background: London police took Prince Philip for a ride Mar 28...to show him the art of skidding at high speed. The duke sat beside a police officer in a patrol car of the type used in London to chase car bandits. Then the demonstration - at London's Hendon Police College Mar 28 - began with the Duke's car spinning and skidding around a traffic island in pursuit of another patrol car.
Before the demonstration in skidding, the Duke watched a mock brawl in a mock public house to show the police officers' art of apprehending persons 'occasioning a breach of the public peace.'
Outside, the Duke inspected the skid ground - specially-greased roads used for training police drivers, before experiencing at first hand the art of skidding by a sergeant instructor at the wheel.
At the end of the visit to the College, the police took the Duke for another ride - home to Buckingham Palace in a patrol car.
