Background: One of Turin's most characteristic buildings is the Mole Antonelliana, used for the Risorgimento Museum, and built by famous architect, Alessandro Antonelli. In 1953, a violent gale knocked down the "obelisk" part of the building and caused overall damage. Since then reconstruction has been in progress and workmen are to be seen May 18/19, raising sections by winch and making general repairs to the building - reopening to the public in 1961.

When work is completed the building will be just half a centimetre over 510 ft. - the original height of its summit. It is the highest brick edifice in Europe; the dome being raised upon a hall with three galleries, one above the other.

As restricted space does not allow for more workers, only four men have been occupied in the restoration - they have been continuously at work on it since May 23, 1953.
