Background: Arriving back in India after an extensive tour that has taken him to Scandinavia, London - for the Commonwealth Prime Minister's Conference - and Egypt, the Indian Prime Minister, Mr. Nehru, was greeted by a large group of cabinet ministers and M.P.'s.
Stepping down from the Viscount airliner that had carried him on his tour, the Premier was welcomed back to his country by the President, Dr. Rajindra Prasad, who had driven to the Palam airport to meet him.
After receiving the greetings of his parliamentary colleagues, Mr. Nehru went on to accept the best wishes of a number of important dignitaries and diplomats - among them the British High Commissioner to India.
Shortly after Mr. Nehru arrived in Delhi, local traders staged a mass demonstration in front of the Parliament building in protest against a new inter-state tax levy.
