Background: A 70 ton Syrian ship, bearing the twin flags of the new Arab Union between Syria and Egypt, was arrested and detained for 24 hours at Haifa today. Bound from Syria to Gaza, the 'Abdul Kerim' was arrested by an Israel patrol boat when-her master stated - she had been blown off course and close into the Israeli shore. After a short investigation of the ships engine and cargo of unspun cotton, textiles and coffee, the Israeli authorities released the ship and her crew. An Israeli vessel and her fishermen crew arrested by Egypt last September, for similar reasons, was released only a week ago.
