    THE BRITISH AIRCRAFT CARRIER "VICTORIOUS" YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY) ARRIVED IN DAR-ES-SALAAM TO JOIN THE CARRIER "CENTAUR" -- THE LATEST MOVE ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECENT ARMY MUTINIES IN EAST AFRICA. SINCE SATURDAY, BRITISH TROOPS CALLED IN BY POLITICAL LEADERS IN TANGANYIKA, UGANDA AND KENYA HAVE HELPED TO DISARM AN ESTIMATED 2,000 MUTINOUS SOLDIERS DEMANDING PAY RISES AND REMOVAL OF BRITISH OFFICERS.

    WITH THE SITUATION NOW EASED, 600 BRITISH MARINES, PUT ASHORE IN TANGANYIKA BY THE "CENTAUR" ARE EXPECTED TO RETURN ABOARD TODAY. THEY ARE BEING REPLACED BY A BATTALION OF GORDON HIGHLANDERS FROM KENYA.

    OTHER LATEST DEVELOPMENTS INCLUDE A CALL BY PRESIDENT NYERERE FOR AN EMERGENCY MEETING OF AFRICAN FOREIGN AND DEFENCE MINISTERS TO DISCUSS THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE ARMY REVOLTS. HE SUGGESTED THAT THE MEETING, OF COUNTRIES BELONGING TO THE ORGANIZATION OF AFRICAN STATES, SHOULD BE HELD IN DAR-ES-SALAAM.

    MEANWHILE A VISIT TO TANGANYIKA BY MR. CHOU EN-LAI, PRIME MINISTER OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA, DUE LATE THIS MONTH, HAS BEEN POSTPONED. NO REASON WAS GIVEN.
