  • Description

On eight football stadiums across the whole of Sweden the referee blows his whistle to-day (Sunday) at 7 p.m., and the world championships in football, which for the coming fortnight will occupy the minds of the world, will start.

We are now on the largest stadium but one in Sweden, the new Idrottsplats at Malmo, which has cost the Swedish state more than 36 million kroner to erect.

3,800 people are gathered at the match between the Argentine and Western Germany. Summer has come to Scandinavia, and the spectators are in the right mood to look at the Argentine team, which in these world championships must be looked upon as a very dangerous favourite to the title of winner of the world cup.

All expect that the final will be fought between Russia and the Argentine on the Rasunda stadium in Stockholm on the 29th.

Argentine has won the toss and has chosen to play sun to back during the first half.

    On a special slip:
Player No. 7 from Argentine makes a goal after two minutes game. It is goal No. 1.

The Argentine attacks the German goal.

Western Germany attacks the Argentine goal.

    The goal-keeper repels the attack.
