    At Madison Square Gardens on Friday night (19 March) Australian tennis professional Rod Laver won the 13th and final match of the Tennis Champions Classic when he outplayed Tom Okker of The Netherlands, 7-5, 6-2, 6-1. His winning cheque for 35,000 U.S. dollars brought his total winnings for the series to 160,000 U.S. dollars (GBP66,666 sterling).

    SYNOPSIS: If you never thought of tennis as a big money sport better take a closer look at Rod Laver's bank deposit slips for the first three months of 1971. The 32 year old Australian has swept the 13-tournament Tennis Champions classic and has picked up 160,000 in prize money.

    Laver won the 13th and final match of the series with a victory over Tom Okker Friday night at Madison Square Garden.

    Laver in the far court, fell behind at the opening of the match but after trailing by three games he shaped up and kept Okker moving all over the court.

    Laver now in the near court puts 27 year old Tom Okker to work and Laver dominates the game.
