The President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Siaka stevens, arrived in Addis Ababa on Thursday (26 July) for a three-day State visit to Ethiopia as the guest of Emperor Haile Selassie.
Dr. Stevens flew into Addis Ababa with his Foreign Minister, Mr. Desmond Luke, his Trade and Industry Minister, Mr. F.M. Minah, and 12 other senior officials. They were greeted at the Addis Ababa airport by the Emperor and members of the Ethiopian government.
As Dr. Stevens stepped down from his aircraft onto a waiting red carpet, a 21-gun salute was fired in his honour. After taking the salute and inspecting a guard of honour, the two leaders drove through flag be-decked streets, lined by members of Ethiopia's Armed Forces and huge crowds.
Half way to the centre of the city the two leaders changed to a glass State coach, and proceeded to the Jubilee Palace escorted by the cavalry of the Imperial Guard.
On Thursday night, Emperor Haile Selassie held a State banquet in honour of Dr. Stevens.
