  • Description

An explosion, believed to have been caused by a fire bomb, badly damaged the Chilean Consulate in West Berlin on wednesday night (12 June). Four people were injured by flying glass. The blast followed the announcement of plans for demonstrations against Chile's junta in West Berlin on Friday to mark the Chilean football team's first World Cup match against West Germany.

All the doors and windows in the four-storey building were blown out by the blast. The interior was badly damaged.

The anti-Chilean demonstrations have been planned by a group calling itself the Chilean Solidarity Committee which says its protests are not aimed at the football team but to draw attention to what it calls "the temor of the military junta".
