MARCHING TO THE PARLIAMENT BUILDING, THEY CARRIED BANNERS PROCLAIMING "SEND THE GREEK ARMY TO CYPRUS". "DOWN WITH THE TURKS", AND "LONG LIVE EOKA".

    GREEK YOUTH ORGANISATIONS HAVE APPEALED TO THE FORMER EOKA CHIEF, GEORGE GRIVAS. TO HELP IN ACTION AGAINST WHAT THEY TERMED "THE BARBARIANS WHO THREATEN CYPRUS". GRIVAS, WHO FOR YEARS EVADED SECURITY DRAGNETS WHILE LEADING HIS UNDERGROUND MOVEMENT OF GREEK CYPRIOT FIGHTERS, NOW LIVES IN RETIREMENT IN GREECE.

    REACHING PARLIAMENT, THE DEMONSTRATORS WERE STOPPED BY A STRONG POLICE FORCE. THEY WERE SENT OUT A GOVERNMENT MESSAGE READING: "WE ARE MAKING A COMMON STRUGGLE WITH THE OTHER POWERS TOWARDS RESTORING PEACE IN THE ISLAND."
