  • Description

After three years of Cultural Revolution, the People's Republic of China has again shown an interest in renewing contact with those countries whose diplomatic links had lapsed.

A constant stream of foreign delegations is said to have visited Peking during recent weeks. China appears to be attaching great importance to the restoration of diplomatic contacts as both Premier Chou En Lai and Chairman Mao Tse Tung have been busy receiving and talking to foreign delegations.

Premier Chou En Lai recently welcomed a North Korean military delegation to Peking. The visitors were accorded a full reception when their aircraft arrived from Pyongyang.

Chairman Mao Tse Tung has also met a Rumanian military deputation and during its visit severely condemned Soviet interference in East Europe... at the same time praising Rumania for maintaining independence from Russia. Observers see this move as indicative of a Chinese plan to align Communist bloc countries on her side in the Sin??? Soviet conflict. They also believe that China's reception of North Korea may be an attempt towards a Chinese-led Asian united front. China's new willingness to tolerate divergent views and diplomatic flexibility was most strikingly demonstrated during a recent visit by a French delegation led by Andre Bettencourt.
