Background: WIMBLEDON WILL HAVE AN ALL-AUSTRALIAN MEN'S SINGLES FINAL THIS YEAR WITH TOP-SEEDED ROY EMERSON, WHO TODAY (WEDNESDAY) DEFEATED WEST GERMANY'S WILHELM BUNGERT, MEETING FELLOW-COUNTRYMAN FRED STOLLE.

STOLLE, THE SIXTH SEED, WON THROUGH TO THE FINAL WHEN HE DEFEATED THE DEFENDING CHAMPION, CHUCK MCKINLEY, OF AMERICA, IN A TWO HOUR AND TWENTY THREE MINUTE BATTLE 4-6, 10-8, 907, 6-4.

BOTH VICTORS TOOK REVENUE FOR DEFEATS IN LAST YEAR'S CHAMPIONSHIP WHEN MCKINLEY BEAT STOLLE IN AN ALMOST ONE-SIDED FINAL AND EMERSON WENT DOWN TO BUNGERT IN A MARATHON FIVE-SET QUARTER-FINAL CLASH.

THE LEAN AND LANKY STOLLE, WHOSE PLAY HAS IMPROVED UNDER THE ALMOST CONTINUOUS PRESSURES OF COMPETITION ON THIS YEAR'S WORLD CIRCUIT, CAME FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT THE DEFENDING CHAMPION BEFORE A CAPACITY CROWD OF 18 THOUSAND ON A SUN-BAKED CENTRE COURT.

THE AMERICAN HAS THE EDGE IN THE FIRST SET, TAKING IT AFTER STOLLE DROPPED THREE SET POINTS. HOWEVER, THE AUSTRALIAN'S CHANCE CAME IN THE 18TH GAME OF THE SECOND SET AND WON THE SET ON THE SECOND OF TWO SET POINTS.

STOLLE THEN FORGED AHEAD TO TAKE THE THIRD SET AND LEAD COMFORTABLY IN THE FOURTH. MCKINLEY, WHO APPEARED TO BE JADED, CAME TO LIFE AND LEVELLED THE SCORE AT 4-GAMES ALL. STOLLE CRASHED THROUGH MCKINLEY'S SERVICE TO CLINCH A PLACE IN THE FINAL IN THE 10TH GAME.

EMERSON'S VICTORY OVER BUNGERT CAME IN THREE STRAIGHT SETS 5-3, 15-13, 5-0 AND ONLY IN THE 75 MINUTE SECOND SET DID BUNGERT SHOW THE FORM WHICH ENABLED HIM TO BEAT MEXICAN RAPHAEL OSUNA IN MONDAY'S QUARTER FINAL.

THE GERMAN DISHEARTENED BY HIS FORM PUT UP ONLY TOKEN RESISTANCE INT HE THIRD SET AND EMERSON RACED AWAY TO A 6-LOVE VICTORY IN ONLY 12 MINUTES AND A FIRST TIME EVER PLACE IN THE WIMBLEDON FINAL AFTER NINE ATTEMPTS.
