    A RIDER FROM THE CAMEROUN REPUBLIC, BONIFACE POMMIER, WAS THE EVENTUAL WINNER OF THE TWO-WEEK TOUR OF THE CAMEROUNS, THE COUNTRY'S PREMIER CYCLE ROAD RACE WHICH ENDED ON WEDNESDAY (15 FEBRUARY).

    POMMIER WON THE 11TH AND LAST STAGE OF THE TOUR, A 58 MILE (93 KILOMETRE) RUN FROM EDEA TO DOUALA, IN TWO HOURS 50 MINUTES AND 50 SECONDS TO HEAD THE FINAL CLASSIFICATION.

    CHRETIEN BITCHANGTCHANG AND JEAN MARIE POKAM, BOTH FROM THE CAMEROUNS, WERE SECOND AND THIRD RESPECTIVELY IN THE OVERALL FINAL CLASSIFICATION.

    THE FIRST RIDER TO GAIN A PLACE WHO DID NOT COME FROM THE CAMEROUNS WAS NAKOULIMA, OF THE IVORY COAST, WHO FINISHED ELEVENTH. THE GRUELLING RACE STARTED ON FEBRUARY 3 AT VICTORIA, IN WESTERN CAMEROUN.

    THREE RIDERS FROM THE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC AND TWO FROM CONGO-BRAZZAVILLE WERE AMONG THE SMALL BATCH WHO SURVIVED THE ELEVEN STAGES, BUT WERE UNPLACED.

    POMMIER WAS PRESENTED WITH THE VICTOR'S PRIZE BY CAMEROUNS PRESIDENT AHMADOU AHIDJO.
