Background: IN ACCRA, THE RECONSTITUTED BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF GHANA'S NATIONAL SHIPPING LINE HAS INAUGURATED AS PART OF CELEBRATIONS TO COMMEMORATE THE LINE'S TENTH ANNIVERSARY. ALSO INAUGURATED AT THE WEEKEND -- THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL OF THE PRIVATE ROAD TRANSPORT UNION. THE NEW SHIPPING LINE BOARD WAS INAUGURATED BY THE GHANAIAN COMMISSIONER FOR COMMUNICATIONS, MR. P.D. ANIN. HE TOLD THE NEW MEMBERS THAT THE PROSPERITY OF THE BLACK STAR LINE -- THE NATIONAL COMPANY -- WOULD DEPEND ON THE ZEAL, INDUSTRY AND HONESTY WITH WHICH THEY DISCHARGED THEIR DUTIES.

HE ASKED THEM TO DO EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO KEEP THE LINE'S FLAG FLYING PROUDLY ON ALL ECONOMICALLY VIABLE ROUTES. LATER, MR. ANIN INAUGURATED THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL OF THE TRANSPORT UNION AND THE ACCRA HALL OF TRADE UNION. HE ANNOUNCED THAT THE GOVERNMENT HAD DECIDED THAT THE ACCRA COUNCIL SHOULD ISSUE LICENSES FOR SUITABLE PRIVATE BUSES TO OPERATE ALONG FIXED ROUTES IN THE CITY.

AT THE CEREMONY, THE SECRETARY-GENERAL OF THE TRADES UNION CONGRESS SUGGESTED THAT LORRIES USED ON COUNTRY ROUTES SHOULD HELP CARRY PEOPLE IN ACCRA DURING RUSH HOURS.
