Background: A Brazilian diplomat, Senor Paulo Dionisio de Vasconcelos, was found dead in a car on Tuesday evening (4 August) near the Hague, Holland. Police said on Wednesday that the diplomat had committed suicide by cutting his own throat.
Senor de Vasconcelos, second Secretary to the Brazilian Embassy at the Hague, was found with a deep gash on the right side of his neck and insignificant wounds on the left hand and wrist. A razor blade, of a type used by the diplomat, was found in the car.
The car containing the diplomat's body was found by a woman cyclist and the discovery set off a investigation by 40 police.
Police said that statements from next-of-kin and the Brazilian Ambassador had made clear that the dead diplomat had been very depressed over difficult personal problems.
Senor de Vasconcelos had been in Holland for 15 months. He was married with one child.
