  • Description

An expedition - sponsored by Japanese newspapers - is searching the Himalayas for the 'Abominable Snowman' - a mysterious creature who so far is only known to exist because of strange footprints found in the snow. The six-man party - Japan's second expedition into the Himalayas this year - left Katmandu, capital of Nepal, Nov 26, by air for Biratnagar, 'jumping-off' base for the climb into the mountains. Two bottles of champagne are reserved at Katmandu's 'Yak and Yeti Club' for anyone who succeeds in catching the 'Snowman', or Yeti as he is known locally.

The 'Bring him back alive' search for the Snowman - beginning from east of Mount Everest - is by 58-year-old Dr. T. Kato, professor of anatomy at Tokyo University, who believes the Yeti to be a half ape, half man type of creature. He is taking no special equipment with him, but will devise his trapping methods on arrival in the hunting area.
