    A PLEA FOR AFRICAN STUDENTS TO FOREGO REVOLT AND DEVOTE THEMSELVES TO PRODUCTIVE ENDEAVOURS WAS MADE BY THE IVORY COAST MINISTER OF EDUCATION, M. LAMBERT AMON TANOH, YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY). M. TANOH WAS SPEAKING AT THE ANNUAL OPENING CEREMONY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ABIDJAN.

    M. TANOH ASKED THE STUDENTS TO WORK "WITHOUT ILLUSIONS, EXPECTING NOTHING FROM THE EAST OR THE WEST".

    REFERRING TO UNIVERSITY REFORM, THE MINISTER SAID THAT THE ABSENCE OF UNIVERSITY TRADITIONS IN AFRICA ALLOWED ORIGINAL SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS.

    THE RECTOR OF THE UNIVERSITY, M. PAULIAN, ALSO ADDRESSED THE STUDENTS.

    DURING THE OPENING, M. PAULIAN CONFERRED THE HONOUR OF DEGREE OF DOCTOR HONORIS CAUSA ON PROFESSOR JANSSENS, DIRECTOR OF THE INSTITUTE OF TROPICAL MEDICINE AT ANVERS, IN BELGIUM.
