  • Description

A car tow-away scheme with a difference: in Geelong, near Melbourne, cars can be seen being towed away from the streets - not to be impounded - but to a rubbish dump, where they meet a violent end.

A tractor shovel smashes into the roof of the car. Squashed flat like a pancake the car is then used with other rubbish to fill up a gully.

When the cars and refuse have been covered with soil the site is to be turned into a recreation ground.

Vehicles eligible under this tow-away scheme are derelict cars abandoned by their owners. Drivers of old cars in Geelong must be anxiously asking: when does an old car become a derelict car.
