Chile beat Spanish second division side Salamanca 3-1 in a World cup warm-up game in Salamanca on Sunday (2 June)
Chile, who must play the highly favoured host country West Germany in their opening World Cup game, produced a satisfactory but unexciting performance against Salemanca.

Chile only reached the finals when the Soviet Union refused to play their World Cup qualifying return game in Santiago on the grounds that the National Stadium had been used by Chile's new military regime for detaining political prisoners.

Manager Luis Alamos has also received criticism at home because he has based his strategy don his side's strong defence. But on Sunday Chile took the lead after just a quarter of an hour. Carlos Reynoso broke clear and put his accurate sidefoot shot past the goalkeeper.

Rodri equalised from the penalty spot for Salamanca after Figueroa and Garcia had been penalised for sandwiching a Salamanca forward, but S'Ocias again found a gap in the loose Salamanca defence to restore Chile's lead.

Reynoso added third goal for Chile in the second half but Manager Alemos will hardly need to remind his players they will not find it so easy to score against international defences. Chile are in the same group as West Germany, East Germany and Australia.
