  • Description

Despite finishing third on Sunday's (16 March) final day of competition, the highly consistent Karel Kodejska of Poland won the World Championship of the spectacular sport of ski-flying at Bad Mittendorf in Austria.

A leap of 143 metres on Sunday added to his two previous jumps of 141 and 144 metres earned Kodejska a total of 512.5 points--a full 7.5 points better than his nearest rival.

East Germany's Rainer Schmidt, who had been in striking distance of the Pole, put in a disappointing final "fly" of 140 metres to finish second.

Third overall, was the winner of the last round, Karl Schnabl of Austria, who was measured at 145 metres. A poor 122 metres leap the day before robbed him of almost certain victory.

Norway's hope, Frithjof Prydz was fourth in the Championship.
