MR. PANT WAS ACCOMPANIED AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE INDIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER IN KENYA, MR. AVTAR SINGH, WHO ALSO SPOKE TO NEWSMEN.

MR. PANT SAID THAT ABOUT 6,000 BRITISH ASIANS WENT TO INDIA FROM KENYA EVERY YEAR. THEY COULD GO TO INDIA, SETTLE THERE PERMANENTLY AND SURRENDER THEIR BRITISH PASSPORTS.

THE VISITING HIGH COMMISSIONER SAID THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT CONSIDERS THE ASIAN BRITISH PASSPORT HOLDERS TO BE A BRITISH RESPONSIBILITY. BUT THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT HAS SAID THAT IF IT WAS A PROBLEM OF THEIR IMMEDIATE ADJUSTMENT INTO BRITAIN'S SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC LIFE, THEN INDIA WOULD ALLOW BRITISH ASIANS INTO INDIA ON A TEMPORARY BASIS UNTIL BRITAIN COULD TAKE THEM, HE ADDED.
