  • Description

The biggest free-for-all brawl of the baseball season erupted in Detroit on Thursday (12 June) as the California Angles crushed the Tigers 14-7.

Angels pitcher Frank Tanana threw one in tight to Willy Horton of the Tigers who charged the mound and the brawl was on. Nobody was seriously hurt and no solid punches were landed but players, umpires and managers jostled and milled around with Horton at the centre of the action.

Horton was thrown out of the game but a suspension won't be recommended.

He said afterwards that he had nothing against Tanana personally but had lashed out against pitchers in general, claiming he had been knocked down at pat in every game for the last three weeks and could take no more.

The furore he sparked off had little effect on the Tigers game. They were losing 2-1 at the time but were eventually crushed 14-7.
