    A MASSIVE RALLY IN SUPPORT OF PRESIDENT ZINSOU OF DAHOMEY WAS CALLED RECENTLY AFTER CIVIL SERVANTS ENDED A TWO-WEEK STRIKE. THE MEETING WAS ORGANISED BY THE POLITICAL PARTY, THE UNION FOR THE RENEVAL OF DAHOMEY.

    THOUSANDS OF WORKERS FLOODED INTO THE PLACE DE LA REVOLUTION IN THE CAPITAL OF COTONOU FOR THE DEMONSTRATION. THEY ARRIVED BY CAR, LORRY AND ON FOOT AND CARRIED BANNERS, SIGNS AND A HUGE PHOTOGRAPH OF PRESIDENT ZINSOU.

    PRESIDENT ZINSOU TOLD THE WORKERS HE FELT NO RANCOUR OR HATE OVER THE STRIKE BUT THAT HE WAS NOT WEAK. HE WENT ON TO SAY HE WOULD ACCEPT ALL VALID SUGGESTIONS AND PROPOSITIONS BUT THAT HE COULD NEVER ACCEPT DISORDER.

    M. ZINSOU ADDED THAT HE WAS IN FAVOUR OF THE REAL REVOLUTION, THE REVOLUTION THAT WOULD PERMIT THE COUNTRY'S ECONOMIC TAKE-OFF, MAKING DAHOMEY A COUNTRY WORTHY OF ESTIME.

    HE CONCLUDED HIS SPEECH BY THANKING THOSE WHO MAINTAINED LAW AND ORDER DURING THE STRIKE, THE MEMBERS OF THE URD PARTY, AND THOSE WHO REMAINED AT THEIR JOBS THROUGHOUT THE WALK-OUT.
