Background: On his way to the Commonwealth Conference in Singapore, the British Prime Minister, Mr. Heath, stooped at Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (Jan 12) for talks with the Malaysian leader Tun Abdul Razak.
The Malaysian Prime Minister met Mr. Heath at the airport and afterwards they held talks on a variety of subjects, including defence, economic investment and the effect on Malaysia of Britain's attempt to join the European Common Market.
A number of demonstrators had gathered at the airport to protest about Britain's proposed arms sales to South Africa. Asked at a Press conference about the threats to expel Britain from the Commonwealth, Mr. Heath replied: "We will remain a member".
After an overnight stop, Mr. Heath flew on to Singapore.
