  • Description

United States golfer Tom Weiskopf won the Canadian Open at Saint Julie de Vercheres in Canada on Sunday, and added it to a remarkable list of victories which have brought him 206,000 dollars ('GBP' 85,000 sterling) this year. Weiskopf, who won the British Open in mid-July, has now won five out of the last eight major tournaments he has entered.

Weiskopf had a 72-hole total of 178, ten shots under par. His prize money is 35,000 dollars ('GBP' 14,000 sterling).

Forrest Fezler came second, two strokes behind, and Bobby Cole of South Africa was third.

SYNOPSIS: A little known golfer, Forrest Fezler, made a big impact in the Canadian Open at Saint Julie de Vercheres on Sunday. But his fine eight under par over 72 holes was only enough for second place. U.S. golfer Tom Weiskopf is currently almost unbeatable.

Weiskopt had won the British Open in mid-July. He arrived at the last of the seventy two holes ten shots under par and a magnificent drive suggested that he might make it eleven.

To the disappointment of the large crowd he did not manage that, but still finished with a total of a hundred and seventy eight, two strokes ahead of Fezler. Bobby Cole of South Africa was third, with a final round of sixty six. Weiskopf's prize was thirty five thousand dollars. He has now won five out of his last eight tournaments and brought his winnings for the year to well over two hundred thousand dollars.
