    NORWEGIAN BJOERN WIRKOLA WITH JUMPS OF 98 AND 92.5 METRES TOOK OUT THE THIRD EVENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL AUSTRO-GERMAN SKI-JUMPING AT INNSBRUCK IN AUSTRIA YESTERDAY (JANUARY 4). SECOND PLACE WENT TO HORST QUECK OF WEST GERMANY WHO JUMPED 99 AND 91.5 METERS. WIRKOLA GAINED 248.5 POINTS AND QUECK 246 POINTS.

    THE EVENT IS RECOGNISED AS THE TOUGHEST IN THE WORLD. CONDITIONS WERE IDEAL AND A LARGE CROWD WAS IN THE AUSTRIA TOWN FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP. IT WAS THE THIRD DAY OF THE FOUR DAY SERIES, WHICH ENDS TOMORROW (TUESDAY) IN BISCHOFSHOFEN, AUSTRIA.

    AFTER THE FIRST SERIES OF HUMPS WIRKOLA AND QUECK WERE NECK AND NECK. ONLY ONE METER AND A FEW POINTS SEPARATED THEM. THE LAST JUMP WAS WATCHED WITH GREAT INTEREST BY THE LARGE CROWD. AGAIN THERE WAS ONLY ONE METER DIFFERENCE IN THE JUMPS MAKING THE TWO MEN LEVEL IN DISTANCE. BUT THE NORWEGIAN WAS GIVEN A 2.5 POINT MAJORITY BY THE JUDGES TO TAKE OUT THE EVENT.

    THIRD PLACE WENT TO ANATOLI SHYEGALNOV OF THE SOVIET UNION WHO MADE TWO JUMPS OF 92.5 METRES AND GAINED 237.8 POINTS.
