  • Description

PRINCE BOUN OUM, PRIME MINISTER OF THE LAOTIAN RIGHT-WING GOVERNMENT, FLEW INTO KUALA LUMPUR, THE MALAYAN CAPITAL, MAY 8, AT THE HEAD OF AN ELEVEN-MEMBER DELEGATION INCLUDING HIS DEPUTY AND DEFENCE MINISTER, GENERAL PHOUMI NOSAVAN.

DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER TUN ABDUL RAZAK WAS AT THE AIRPORT TO WELCOME THE LAOTIAN VISITORS. PRINCE BOUN OUM IMMEDIATELY GAVE A NEWS CONFERENCE AND TOLD THE PRESS HIS MISSION WAS TO PRESENT WHAT HE CALLED "A MORE ACCURATE PICTURE" OF THE SITUATION IN LAOS. HE SAID EVENTS HAD BEEN "MISINTERPRETED BY IRRESPONSIBLE REPORTERS".

LATER, THE PRINCE PAID A CALL ON TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN AT THE PRIME MINISTER'S RESIDENCE IN THE CAPITAL. HE WAS SEEKING ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL SUPPORT FOR HIS GOVERNMENT.

COMMENTING ON THE MEETING, TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN STATED THAT MALAYA HAD NO PROBLEMS TO DISCUSS WITH LAOS AND WAS NOT IN A POSITION TO HELP.
