    TAXI DRIVERS IN LAGOS ON THURSDAY STAGED A DEMONSTRATION OUTSIDE THE DODAN MILITARY BARRACKS IN LAGOS, PROTESTING AGAINST ALLEGED FRENCH BUSINESS SUPPORT FOR BIAFRA, THE BREAKAWAY EASTERN REGION OF NIGERIA. THE TAXI DRIVERS LATER PRESENTED A LETTER TO THE FRENCH AMBASSADOR, AND ASKED HIM TO TRANSMIT THEIR PROTEST TO PRESIDENT DE GAULLE.

    THE TAXI DRIVERS FORMED A PICKET LINE OF TAXIS OUTSIDE THE BARRACKS. SOME OF THE DRIVERS WALKED UP AND DOWN OUTSIDE THE BARRACKS CARRYING PLACARDS PROTESTING AT UNOFFICIAL FRENCH RECOGNITION OF BIAFRA.

    THE DRIVERS' LETTER CLAIMED THAT FRENCH BUSINESS MEN HAD BEEN AIDING THE REBEL REGIME OF COLONEL OJUKWU "MORALLY AND FINANCIALLY". THE LETTER SAID "WE ARE CONSTRAINED TO EXPRESS OUR INDIGNATION AND OUR PROTEST IN THE STRONGEST TERMS POSSIBLE".
