TURNER: Well, obviously it was a goal in the end, I suppose, although I didn't want it to be for a start, and having got it I think it gives us a good excuse for a good night out.

QUESTION: How will you be celebrating in fact?

TURNER: Well, actually I've been invited out for a curry by Mushtaq at B.S Bedi's place, and one or two of us are going there. I dare say we'll have one or two bottles of wine and we'll enjoy it.

QUESTION: How did you find it, out there. It didn't look as if Northants were making things particularly easy, especially Bedi, who you've just mentioned?

TURNER: Yes, well obviously they're not going to hand it to you. I wouldn't want it that way anyway. They made me struggle. I struggled and just managed to get through.

QUESTION: How did you sleep last night, by the way Glenn?

TURNER: Pretty well -- about average I would say. What are you going to ask me now -- what I had for breakfast.

QUESTION: Well, you may as well tell us.

TURNER: I'm a fried egg man.

QUESTION: You looked very calm out there, and you look very calm now. Were you getting tense at all?

TURNER: Well, obviously when you get close to the point, you think that you've got to try and make it happen and as a result you are a little bit tense. But I tried not to be too tense, no.

QUESTION: The way it has worked out, the suspense couldn't have been much greater, could it, being on the very last day of May?

TURNER: Well, sure. The thousand aside, the fact that it was a wet wicket gave me more satisfaction getting a big score on that -- a thing that probably gives me more pleasure."

Background: Opening batsman Glenn Turner, who has been in superb form since the New Zealand test side started it tour of England, today (Thursday) became the first batsman in England for 30 years to score 1,000 runs before the end of May. Only six other cricketers have accomplished the feat in the past.

Turner batted his way into the record books during the New Zealanders' game with the English county side Northamptonshire (Northants). Hundreds of spectators applauded him for fully one minute as he passed the 1,000 run total on the very last day of May.

Other batsman who have chalked up the thousand run mark include W.G. Grace, Wally Hammond, Don Bradman and Bill Edrich. During today's game, Turner went on to make 111 before losing his wicket to two of Northampton's foreign players -- caught Mushtaq, bowled Bedi.

After he was finally out, Turner was interviewed for the British Broadcasting Corporation, and asked if he was worried about reaching his target:
SYNOPSIS: A moment of cricketing history at English county ground of Northampton on Thursday, where New Zealand tourist Glenn Turner became only the seventh man to score a thousand runs before the end of May. Turner, who accomplished his feat on the very last day of May, will go into the records books alongside the names of W.G. Grace, Don Bradman and Wally Hammond. Finally, Northampton players Mushtaq Mohammad and B.S. Bedi combined to get Turner out -- for a fine century. Did he ever doubt he'd reach his thousand-run target:
