  • Description

During one of the largest exercises ever carried out by the Israeli Army, troops gave field trip to a new weapon - the Galil assault rifle. The main part of the exercise was a three-phase operation launched to secure enemy positions. The first phase was an assault force attacking the enemy positions, the second was carried out by Skyhawk aircraft bombing the positions with Napalm. Finally, helicopter bourn paratroops were landed near the enemy positions to secure them.

Senior Israeli officers watched all phases of the operations. The last part of the exercise was an assault on an enemy positions, set up according to the Russian system of defence, similar to that encountered on the Golan Heights in the 1967 war.

SYNOPSIS: Israeli Skyhawk fighter-bombers attack "enemy" positions with Napalm. It was all part of the "softening-up" operation carried out by Israeli Armed Forces during a full-scale military exercise carried out somewhere in Israeli's desert region this week.

Part of the three phase military exercise, aimed at securing "enemy" positions, was the use of helicopters. These quickly carried paratroopers over the desert terrain towards a predetermined landing site where they could launch the final attack.

Troops giving covering fire were equipped with the new Galil assault rifle.

Having "softened-up" the enemy, the covering troops moved toward new cover positions.

Meanwhile the helicopter bourn paratroopers had arrived at forward positions. These troops went on to secure the enemy held positions. Senior Israeli officers watched all phases of the exercise.

The last part of the exercise was an assault on an "enemy" position set up according to the Russian system of defence. This was the type of defence encountered on the Golan Heights during the nineteen-sixty-seven war.
