  • Description

AUSTRALIA'S MAJOR AGRICULTURAL EXHIBITION, THE ROYAL EASTER SHOW, WAS OPENED IN SYDNEY LAST WEEK. THE STRIKE WHICH IMMOBILISED ALL GOVERNMENT BUSES SERVICES HAD A NOTICEABLE BUT NOT EXCESSIVE EFFECT ON THE ATTENDANCE.

EIGHTEEN THOUSAND PEOPLE HAD PASSED THROUGH THE TURNSTILES; THIS WAS ONLY SEVENTEEN HUNDRED FEWER THAN THE DAYTIME ATTENDANCE ON THE FIRST DAY OF LAST YEAR'S SHOW.

AS USUAL, IT WAS A DAY OF WIDE INTEREST -- THERE WAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE IN THE FAMILY. THE JUDGING OF THE SHORTHORN BULLS ATTRACTED AN INTENT CROWD OF ONLOOKERS.

WHO WATCHES THE PIGS? MOTHERS AND CHILDREN OF COURSE. BUT NOT FAR AWAY WERE THINGS OF FAR GREATER INTEREST TO THE YOUNGSTERS----MODEL TRAINS AND MISSILES.

THE POLICE BAND FORM FIJI PROVIDED MUSIC FOR THE RING EVENTS SUPPORTED BY LOCAL BANDS. AND THERE WAS THE USUAL VARIED AMUSEMENTS OF SIDESHOW ALLEY, FOR VISITORS TO THE 1964 ROYAL EASTER SHOW.
