YESTERDAY (MONDAY) A BRISTOL BRITANNIA OF BRITAIN'S ROYAL AIR FORCE TRANSPORT COMMAND LANDED THERE WITH FIFTY MEMBERS OF AN ADVANCE PARTY OF THE SECOND BATTALION OF THE PARACHUTE REGIMENT. THE WHOLE BATTALION WILL BE IN SINGAPORE BY THE END OF THE WEEK IN CASE THEY SHOULD BE NEEDED TO DEFEND MALAYSIA.

    AS THEY STEPPED FROM THEIR PLANE, THE MEN WERE GREETED BY LIEUTENANT-GENERAL SIR ADAM JOLLY OF THE FAR EAST ARMY COMMAND.

    TEN THOUSAND TROOPS INCLUDING THE GURKHAS AND MANY BRITISH SOLDIERS ARE NOW IN MALAYSIA. IN BRITAIN, A THOUSAND MORE MEN ARE PREPARING TO LEAVE FOR THE FAR EAST. MEANWHILE, THE GIANT BRITISH AIRCRAFT CARRIER "EAGLE" IS ON ITS WAY FROM MOMBASA IN KENYA, TO REINFORCE MALAYSIA.

    THE MALAYSIAN CABINET HAS HAD SEVERAL CRISIS MEETINGS. THE GOVERNMENT SAYS MALAYSIA, IF THREATENED, WILL APPEAL TO THE UNITED NATIONS FOR IMMEDIATE HELP, AT THE SAME TIME TAKING SWIFT RETALIATORY ACTION AGAINST ANY INVASION ATTEMPTS.
