  • Description

A new daily appeared on the streets of Paris Monday (20 August) in the Persian language, its purpose, to take the place of opposition newspapers either banned or censored in Iran. The daily called Nameh Rrouz, meaning Daily Letter decidedly anti-Khomeini, is published by a group of expatriots, headed by former Iranian Prime Minister Shapur Bakhtiar.

SYNOPSIS: The newspaper, more like a newsheet, began with an eight-page edition.

And the journalists working on the newsheet have declined to be identified. The publishers expect to have about two thousand subscribers in Iran, and about five thousand more in various European countries. There are also tentative plans for an English edition in the Autumn to be distributed in the United States. One of the principle founders of the paper is journalist and former Iranian television producer Monsieur Djanad Alamir.
