    THIRTY THOUSAND MEMBERS OF TUNISIA'S GENERAL UNION OF WORKERS' MARCHED THROUGH THE STREETS OF TUNIS YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) IN PROTEST AGAINST THE RECENT PLOT TO ASSASSINATE PRESIDENT BOURGUIBA.

    THE VAST BANNER-CARRYING CROWD ASSEMBLED OUTSIDE THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE TO HEAR MR. LADGHAM, STATE SECRETARY TO THE PRESIDENCY, SAY SOME ARAB COUNTRIES TURNED A BLIND EYE TO THE ACTIVITIES OF OPPONENTS OF THE TUNISIAN GOVERNMENT IN THEIR COUNTRIES.

    MR. LADGHAM SAID SOME OF THE PLOTTERS AGAINST THE PRESIDENT'S LIFE WORKED FROM ABROAD. HE ADDED: "PLOTS AND PUTSCHES ARE OFTEN ORGANISED IN THE WORLD. IT'S A SIGN OF THE TIMES. EVERY HEAD OF STATE KNOWS THAT THERE ARE DANGERS FOR HIM".

    (ON WEDNESDAY, PRESIDENT BOURGUIBA SAID AN OFFICER IN HIS PERSONAL GUARD WAS "PREPARING TO LEAD THE ASSASSINS TO MY BED". HE SAID IT WAS A "MIRACLE" THAT HE WAS STILL ALIVE. HIS SPEECH TO A TUNISIAN WOMEN'S CONGRESS BROKE THE SILENCE ABOUT A PLOT FIRST MENTIONED IN A GOVERNMENT COMMUNIQUE LAST MONDAY. THIS SAID A PLOT AGAINST THE STATE SECURITY AND TO MURDER MR. BOURGUIBA HAD BEEN DISCOVERED AND 20 PEOPLE HAD BEEN ARRESTED.)
