    WATCHING THE MANOEUVRE ALONG THE LEADERS OF THE NATIONALIST CHINESE ARMY IS LIEUTENANT-GENERAL MANUEL F. CABAL, CHIEF OF STAFF OF THE PHILIPPINES ARMED FORCES, WHO IS HEADING A GOODWILL MILITARY MISSION TO "FREE CHINA".

    IN THE MOCK EXERCISE, MOUNTED FOR THE VISITING FILIPINO DIGNITARY, SOLDIERS MANNING DEFENCE POSITIONS FIRED MORTARS.

    AS THE ARMY BOSSES WATCHED, THE CAMOUFLAGED MEN OF THE ARMY TRAINING CENTRE CRAWLING THROUGH "ENEMY" HEAVY GUN FIRE AND MACHINE-GUN FIRE CLEVERLY NEGOTIATED A BARBED WIRE FENCE TO TAKE SHELTER IN A TRENCH. FROM THE TRENCH THEY CHARGED AT THE "ENEMY" HURLING HAND GRENADES AND FIRING THEIR GUNS.

    CABAL WAS VISIBLY IMPRESSED BY THE TURNOUT OF THE SOLDIERS. HE TOLD HIS NATIONALIST CHINESE COUNTERPARTS THAT THE MEN'S PERFORMANCE WAS OF A HIGH ORDER.

    HE CONGRATULATED THE SOLDIERS TAKING PART IN THE MANOEUVRE AND HAPPILY POSED WITH THEM FOR PHOTOGRAPHS - A TRIBUTE TO THE SOLDIERS OF NATIONALIST CHINA FROM ITS ALLY AND FRIEND, THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES.
