28 CARS LEFT NAIROBI YESTERDAY (SATURDAY, 7 FEBRUARY) ON A MONTE CARLO TYPE RALLY -- THE FIRST OF ITS KIND EVER STAGES IN EAST AFRICA.

SPONSORED BY A LEADING INTERNATIONAL SOFT-DRINK MANUFACTURE, THE RALLY WAS ORGANISED BY LOCAL MOTOR CLUBS THROUGHOUT KENYA, AND THEIR AFFILIATES IN NEIGHBOURING UGANDA AND TANGANYIKA.

BASED ALONG THE SAME LINES AS THE FAMOUS MONTE CARLO RALLY, THE 280-MILE (APPROX. 450 KMS) EVENT TAKES THE COMPETITORS THROUGH SOME OF THE EAST AFRICA'S MOST RUGGED COUNTRY.

THE RALLY CATERS FOR THREE CLASSES OF CARS, BUT THE MAJORITY OF ENTRIES WERE SPECIALLY CONVERTED FAMILY SEDANS.
