A Foreign Ministry spokesman for South Vietnam, Mr. Nguyen Bich Mac, has claimed that the North Vietnamese have established "at least 12 airfields" in South Vietnam, since the enactment of the Paris Peace Agreement last January.
Speaking at a press conference in Saigon on Tuesday (11 September) Mr. Mac denounced the North Vietnamese for, what he termed, its scheme to stage an all-out attack against South Vietnam sometime in the future. He claimed that North Vietnam had infiltrated many large anti-aircraft units, including SAM-2 missiles, into the South.
The South Vietnamese spokesman called on the North to cease this "illegal infiltration" and all repairing and expanding of airfields.
He said his country reserved the right to carry out all necessary steps to protect its security.
