  • Description

Actor Richard Burton and his wife Elizabeth Taylor said in Nice on Thursday (13 April) that they hoped to visit North and South Vietnam during a three-month world tour starting next month. They are at present shooting scenes for the film of Graham Greene's novel "The Comedians" at the Riviera resort of Valescure, near Saint-Raphael.

Burton said the aim of the trip was simply to see what was going on and to make human contacts. There was no question of giving any political significance to the visit, he added, and they will refuse to make any statement after leaving.

He thought there would be no trouble in getting a visa for North Vietnam because he is British. But British-born Miss Taylor is now an American citizen.

They said they would remain in France another month before setting off on their tour which would include New York, Los Angeles, Hawaii and Tokyo. After Tokyo they intended to visit Vietnam.

Our film shows Miss Taylor being asked by French reporters about her reactions to receiving an Oscar for her role in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf".
