Background: Israeli Foreign Minister, Abba Eban on Tuesday (November 23) rejected Egyptian President, Anwar Sadat's latest threats of war and declared that Israel would not renounce its right to negotiate for an agreed ???, Mr Eban was answering Opposition motions for a debate on the latest declaration from the Egyptian President that hopes for peace were dead and Egypt had decided to fight.

At the same time an air of calm was reflected throughout Tel Aviv. A mock air raid alarm was ignored by most people in the city.

SYNOPSIS: The Knesset building in Tel Aviv was the scene on Tuesday of a spirited debate about Israel's official reaction to the latest threats of war from Egyptian President, Anwar Sadat. Left-wing spokesman, Mr. Uri Avnori was heckled by Knesset members as he spoke.

Israeli Foreign Minister, Mr. Abba Eban, rejected President Sadat's latest threats of war and said Israel would not renounce its right to negotiate for an agreed peace. The Foreign Minister said Israel would be "firm and awake to its security requirements, strong and clear in its political path and persistent and untiring in its meperidine for peace". Mr. Eban declared that Israel would not yield to military intimidation.

As the Knesset continued to debate its reaction to the latest threats of war, a mock air raid warning want virtually unnoticed in Tel Aviv.

People carried on their normal daily routines as the sirens wailed their war cry. At the same time the Knesset was debating the latest moves, Most members were more strong in their replies to president Sadat than the Foreign Minister.

Chief Opposition spokesman, Manaham Begin told the Knesset that if President Sadat carried out his threat to re-start the war Israel would counter-attack with such force as to make him request a new ceasefire.
