  • Description

Police seized more than 130 Arabs in Jerusalem on Friday (September 29) after a bottle bomb exploded in a crowded supermarket -- injuring three women. The area was immediately sealed off, and the Arabs - working nearby - were taken into custody.

It was the second time that the supermarket has been the scene of violence. The first incident took place in 1969, when two students died in a guerrilla attack there.

Among the victims in Friday's bombing was the wife of a diplomat at the Venezuelan Embassy.

SYNOPSIS: In Jerusalem on Friday a supermarket in the busy town centre -- crowded with shoppers buying for the last day of a religious feast -- was bombed by raiders. They planted a home-made bottle bomb in the beverages department, and three women were hurt in the blast. One of them was the wife of a diplomat at the Venezuelan Embassy.

It was the second time in three years the supermarket has been the scene of violence. In 1968, two students died in a guerrilla attack here.

Police sealed off the area almost immediately, and seized more than a hundred and thirty Arabs working nearby. They took them to police stations for questioning.
