Europe's top goal-scorers in the 1967-78 season's league competitions gathered in Paris on Thursday (12 October) for the European Golden Boot award ceremony. The Golden Boot is given to the player who scores most goals in any First Division of European Football League.
SYNOPSIS: The ceremony took place at the famous Paris Lido on the Champs-Elysees. Hans Krankl won the Golden Boot for scoring 41 goals which helped Rapid finish runners-up in last season's Austrian League.
Carlos Bianchi, an Argentine playing for Parisian club, Saint-Germain, for the second time won the Silver Boot.
For the second year running, the Bronze Boot went to Ruud Geels, a Dutchman who scored 32 goals for Ajax in his native league.
Geels has since been transferred to Anderlecht of Belgium. Experts say Hans Krankl is the best Austrian player for 20 years. His goalscoring talents were on view in this year's World Cup when his two goals helped Austria to a favour victory over 1974 Cup winners, West Germany. He follows such past winners as Gerd Muller and the legendary Eusebio.
