World Cup football -- and the one-ail draw between Greece and Hungary in Athens on Saturday (9 October).

SYNOPSIS: The two sides were meeting in the Greek capital in a Group Nine European zone qualifying match at the karaskakis stadium, and a crowd of nearly 30,000 people was there to watch. Both sides mounted a number of attacks on the opposition goal in the first half, but good defence and poor finishing prevented either side from scoring.

The pattern of attack and counter-attack continued throughout the first half, with both sides missing a number of chances to take the lead in the match. Saturday's game was the first leg of the series between Greece and Hungary. The second leg will be played next month in the Hungarian capital, Budapest.

On several occasions it was only saves by the goalkeepers that prevented either side scoring. Greece had their best chance late in the first half when one player broke through the Hungarian defence only to put his shot just over the crossbar. At half time the score was nil-all.

However in the second half the attacking paid off when Greek winger Papaionnou scored for the home side in the 68th minute of the match, to give Greece a one-nil lead.

The Greek celebrations lasted for only twenty minutes as Hungarian player Nulazi scored the equalising goal with less than five minutes left to play.
