In the United States, the electric car is no longer a futuristic fantasy. Research at one of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) laboratories in Pasadena, California, for the United States Department of Energy, is currently underway. There they are testing an alternative to gasoline-powered automobiles that may also be quieter and less pollution. The inventor of one model says the main factor in favour of the electric car is that it can use any kind of energy to produce the electricity: oil, coal or nuclear. And even solar energy can be used to produce the electricity which is stored in the car for power.
