  • Description

BRITAIN'S CONSERVATIVE LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION, MR EDWARD HEATH, YESTERDAY (TUESDAY) SPENT THE DAY IN CAIRO AND HAD TALKS ON THE MIDDLE EAST CRISIS WITH EGYPT'S PRESIDENT NASSER AND FOREIGN MINISTER MAHMOUD RIAD.

MR HEATH, WHO ARRIVED IN CAIRO FROM JEDDAH AFTER VISITING THE EMIRATES OF THE PERSIAN GULF, FIRST CALLED AT THE FOREIGN MINISTRY AT GIZAH FOR TALKS WITH MINISTER RIAD. POLITICAL OBSERVERS HAVE NOTED THAT EGYPTIAN AUTHORITIES ARE VERY KEEN TO WIN OVER THE OPINION OF BRITAIN'S CONSERVATIVE PARTY TO THE ARAB VIES ON THE MIDDLE EAST SITUATION.

AFTER MEETING OTHER EGYPTIAN GOVERNMENT MINISTERS, MR HEATH WEN TO THE PRESIDENTIAL RESIDENCE AT NANCIET EL BAKRI, FOR A MEETING WITH PRESIDENT NASSER. LATER, MR HEATH SAID THAT HE WAS HOPEFUL THAT THE BIG FOUR (USA, RUSSIA, FRANCE AND BRITAIN) TALKS CURRENTLY TAKING PLACE IN NEW YORK WOULD BRING ABOUT A SATISFACTORY SETTLEMENT OF THE ARAB-ISRAELI DISPUTES.

TODAY (WEDNESDAY), MR HEATH CONTINUED HIS TRIP TO JERUSALEM, WHERE HE IS EXPECTED TO HOLD SIMILAR TALKS WITH ISRAELI LEADERS.
