    THE REPUBLIC OF CHAD CELEBRATED UNITED NATIONS DAY LAST WEEK (24 OCT) WITH A RECEPTION IN THE GROUNDS OF THE PRESIDENTIAL PLACE AT FORT-LAMY, AT WHICH PRESIDENT FRANCOIS TOMBALBAYE ENTERTAINED MEMBERS OF THE UNITED NATIONS MISSION IN CHAD.

    THE DAY MARKED THE 24TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SIGNING OF THE UNITED NATIONS CHARTER.

    THE PRESIDENT AND A GROUP OF MINISTERS, OFFICIALS AND THEIR WIVES WERE AT THE PALACE TO ENTERTAIN THE UN. REPRESENTATIVES, HEADED BY MR MUCUTA WACLAW, CHIEF OF THE MISSION IN FORT-LAMY. LATER MR WACLAW GAVE A RECEPTION AT HIS OWN RESIDENCE.

    PRESIDENT TOMBALBAYE MARKED THE OCCASION WITH A MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE OF CHAD IN WHICH HE PAID TRIBUTE TO THE WORK OF THE UNITED NATIONS ORGANISATION IN AVOIDING AND ENDING CONFLICTS, IN SPEEDING THE PROGRESS OF DEVELOPING COUNTRIES, IN HELPING TO IMPROVE SOCIAL CONDITIONS, IN LEADING PEOPLE TO FREEDOM AFTER YEARS OF COLONIAL DOMINATION, AND IN DEVELOPING AND CODIFYING THE LAWS WHICH GOVERN RELATIONS BETWEEN COUNTRIES.
