The new Board of Directors of the Volta River Authority held its first meeting in Accra today. The meeting was presided over by the Inspector-General of Police and Vice Chairman of the N.L.C., Mr. J.W.K. Harlley, who is Chairman of the Board. Mr. Harlley said the N.L.C. is anxious that the surplus power from the Volta Dam be made available to Ghana's neighbouring countries so that Ghana may be able to share the benefits of the project with them while at the same time earning much-needed revenue. He said to this end active negotiations are being held with the Governments of Togo and Dahomey. He said the N.L.C. hopes that other neighbouring countries will soon request for power from the Volta Dam. Mr. Harlley added that the N.L.C. will formulate such economic policies as will ensure the maximum utilization of the power from the Dam.
