SYNOPSIS: Japanese newsmen flew into Bonn on Monday to cover the last stage of Emperor Hirohito's controversial European tour. A red carpet welcome had been laid on at the airport. And a crowd of about twenty-five hundred people -- swollen by Japanese who work in West Germany -- waited to cheer the Emperor at the start of the three-day visit. On the way from Switzerland, the Emperor's aircraft had flown low over Munich giving him a glimpse of the site of next years Olympics.

The Emperor emerged looking frail after his exhausting tour. Despite general enthusiasm at his arrival at the airport, there had earlier been a demonstration by over a thousand young left-wingers in Berlin, protesting against so-called Japanese imperialism. At the airport, the welcome was led by the President of West Germany's Upper House, Herr Hans Koschnick. He was standing in for President Gustav Heinemann who is recovering from an eye operation.
